A quick blog – Are we really individual or not?!

So I was sitting in my Critical Consumption Studies lesson thinking how i was actually enjoy one of my courses, the lesson was about fashion you see.

” Why do we love things” being the lecture….

Toward the end of the lecture after talking about the reasons for fashion existing , fashion history and such and my teacher spoke of a few things which got me thinking….

“If you have enough money you can look however you want”

and also

“Fashion can not really be ‘individual’ – clothes are massed produced and fashion is always copied – so therefor is not individual”

Photo from the BBC website.

I am not sure i agree with this … to an extent i do yes with the mass productuion . However I have seen so many bloggers as well as people on the streets who stand out with their “fashion”. Not all fashion is based around music, although i do realise a lot is and it has such a close connection.

Yes a lot of clothes may be mass produced and yes there is the ‘trickle down’ effect in a way. This is where it is seen that “fashion prelocates to the lower orders from the leisure class”. However I do feel that fashion can be expressed by so many emotions and in so many ways.

I also understand what is meant by ” if you have enough money you can look how you want” But i believe that this is not “true” fashion. Maybe I will be add a little more too this blog later as i do not have time now !

This post is a little messy and not well thought out, im sorry. I am in the middle of lots of essays but i just wanted to throw the two remarks my teahcer made out there, to see what all you individual fashion loving bloggers think !

I myself do not agree with either of the statements made ! :)

My Saturday

I set out wearing my little gold pumps

to meet my mum and grandma for
the day.
We went for breakfast at a place I really do love
it goes by the name of Pop boutique!

The cups don’t match and the breakfast is delightful.

They also sell 50′s/60′s/70′s furniture,
toys, clothes and shoes.
They also have quite wondrous dresses,
I will show you a few i purchased in my next post.
I always have to pop into my favorite book shop,
it also sells the most amazing magazines including, fashion, design
and many more!
I have been here for three years oh maybe it is four
and I have never had the chance to pop into the Royal
Exchange – Inside it is so pretty, I have to go back and take more
photos, maybe even watch a play!
An early Christmas present came my way.

When I have the heating on lots my skin tends
to become very dry.
Hopefully these three little gems will make me better!
The one in the middle is Bi-serum, which you put on once a day
if not twice depending on how dry your skin is. Your normal
cream and make-up can go on soon after and it really helps to
hydrate your skin.

And of course some handy little samples !

The little girl has moved away..

No longer will I be sitting in front of the fire with the cat, doing uni work and day dreaming.
I decided to move back here and live in the city where all my friends are. It will be easier for getting to uni and having lots of fun!

I will miss home, I always do when I go back to uni but here I am.
This is my unmade bedroom. I will post photos when I have sorted it out.
I am sharing with four other girls whom I have not met as of yet.Im a little nervous.

I found a group on flickr: Makeup World! !
It is full of lovely photos related to make up ! Some photos can give you lots of new ideas, others are just pretty to look at.
Which led me to find the following photographer, I love the photos.

I love this photo and there are lots more amazing photos – This is by : La Caitlin

I also found this photo interesting. This girl really does have a lot of makeup!

red and white…

I think if you click the photo it gets bigger ( the photo was taken in my sisters room)
The dress is from popboutique..
Ok so i am camera shy but this is my first not so amazing outfit post…But i promise they shall get better.
It was a dull day and I was just popping to town with my friend -who is going away next week back to being a holiday rep :(
So i had a nice afternoon in town and came home with these yummy cakes for my mum and sister !
I also wanted to point out about white poppies!!
I had not seen them untill my grandma was wearing one with her red poppy the other day they stand for:
“The White Poppy symbolises the belief that there are better ways to resolve conflicts than killing strangers. “

After doing some research on the internet i found a lot of people do not know what it stands for and also hate it and want it to be banned.
I was very shicked by this !
The first white poppies were produced in 1933 by The Women’s Co-operative Guild – The white poppy was not intended as an insult to those who died in the First World War – a war in which many of the women lost husbands, brothers, sons and lovers.
So the Great was was mean to be ” The war to end all war” and it was not.
I dont want to go into too much detail but just to bring white poppies to your attention as i was shocked how many people did not understand the white poppies. I only found out about them the other day but i am so happy i now know what they are, stand for and had the chance to research them a little more.
It would be nice if more people knew about them, and also for the correct reasons.
I will now choose to wear a RED and WHITE poppy. I do think we should and must respect those who died and all the grief ( which is what the black centre stands for) and I also think we should want war to end.
So why not put “White poppies” into google and see what you think…

Two new beauty buys…

In the photo below are my two new buys this week. I have very sensitive skin and have to be careful what i choose and this is how i found a non orangey and non skin irritating foundation….

I was waiting for my mum in boots looking at the Benefit makeup I always have a look at their things as the packaing is pretty, however i tend to stick to makes I know and have never relaly tried any of their makeup ( also they have a pretty high price ).
One of the girls who works on the departement practically sat me on the stool and quizzed me about make up. I am really glad she did as I found YourebelLite ! It has Aloe Vera in it and is a tinted moisturiser which is very lite on the skin and smells lovely.
She also mixed it with soemthing called “bad gal” which gives your skin a healthy glow and a little sparkle.I was also going to buy this when I went back into town but with a £5.00 voucher off No.7 products I went for theirs so ended up only paying about £6.00.

Oh and one other thing about this lovely combo is that it can hide any dark circles around your eyes. If you are a bad sleeper like me you will know how dark circles can be such a pain!

I hope everyone had a fun Halloween ( if you celebrate halloween that is ).
I was meant to go to a Halloween party but I have been a leetlee ill this week so had to give it a miss.

My little pumpkin !

Oh and of course I had to have a chocolate apple ! Yum!

My aim and plan for this week ( other than getting well again ) is to get some of outfit pictures up !
