Seaside Picks: A Day At The Beach

I hope you’ve all had a good week. Hasn’t the weather has been lovely over the last couple of days? It’s been a much needed change here in Sheffield and I hope it lasts over the weekend. All this sunshine has had had me dreaming about Southwold even more than usual. So, I thought it would be fun to pick out some pretty handbag essentials for a day trip to the seaside.

So, here are some of the things which I’d wear or pop into my beach bag for a last minute day trip.

SummerPicks

Beach Towel | Coin Purse | Book | Sun Cream | Tote Bag | Sunglasses | Hat

I think we can all agree that a beach towel is always handy, even if you don’t have plans to take a dip. A beach towel gives you extra seating for when friends turn up, although it’s good to have a throw to sit on. It’s never nice getting sand on the picnic food. If you do end up going for a paddle you can easily dust off all the sand with the towel and not on the throw. I think this one from Orla Kiely is beautiful but they also have a watermelon one that some of you may like.

When you’re out at the beach your handbag is usually filled with lots of things and you really don’t need to be carrying a big purse around. Instead a simple coin purse is always my choice. I currently have a lemon shaped one from Kate Spade but I’m keen to get my hands on a watermelon one this summer. This watermelon purse form Whistles is perfect. It’s small, neat and I like the muted colours. I’m pretty sure I’ll end up treating myself with it this month.

Every beach bag must contain a book, even if you don’t get ’round to reading it. One of the many books on my summer reading list is Self Belief by Jamal Edwards. What will you be reading thus summer?

There are three things that will be with me all summer long. Sunglasses, a hat and suncream and they’re extra important at the beach. Suncream is important, even here in the UK. I personally like this one from Lovea Bio, it’s easy to apply and doesn’t leave your skin feeling sticky. When it comes to sunglasses I like them big. These Dita Von Teese Femme Totale sunglasses are on offer at the moment and if you’re a fan of cat eye glasses then you’re going to love them. I have them in black and they’re delightfully dramatic. For the hat I picked out this straw and feather fedora from Topshop. You can’t go wrong with their hats, just make sure it’s not a windy day.

Finally and possibly my most favourite item of my seaside picks is this watermelon tote bag from good old Kate Spade. It’s colourful, big and will house all your seaside essentials.

If you’re planning a trip to Southwold then here are 3 things you must do on your visit.
