3rd December – A family day trip to London

buying christmas tree london

On Saturday I went into London for the day with my mum and sister. It only takes about 50 minutes to get there from Cambridge so it’s easy to pop in for the day. It was actually my mum’s birthday and instead of buying lots of gifts (apart from a bottle of Brockman’s gin) we decided it would be fun to treat her to a day out.

We headed straight to the V&A for coffee and to see the installation of Christmas trees. I recommend visiting the V&A, they have lots of permanent collections. I particularly like the fashion, photography and jewellery rooms. Next door there’s the Natural History museum (The Science museum is just behind it) there’s the ice skating rink which appears during the festive season. We didn’t do any skating but it was lovely to watch everyone else skating.

We all enjoy walking as much as we can when we go into London. It gives us the chance to discover new areas of this big and wonderful city and I think it’s the best way to find new coffee shops to try. We ended up walking to Chelsea to explore the shops. They have a lovely Anthropologie shop on Kings Road, we probably spent way too long in there. There are a lot of lovely shops in that area, we found a few exciting homeware shops which I’m looking forward to going back to on my next visit.

We ended our trip with a visit to Sadaf, a Persian restaurant (Location: 27 Westbourne Grove Bayswater London). Fun fact – Sadaf means pearl. My sister had been keen to take us to Sadaf for ages and it didn’t disappoint.

The food was excellent, my mum and I went for the traditional kabab koobideh. I don’t eat meat much these days but if I got to a Persian restaurant then I usually pick this as a treat. My sister had vegetarian fessenjoon which is a walnut and pomegranate stew. A lot of Persian food consists of delicious warming stews which are perfect for this time of the year.

Sadaf London Food

The service was fantastic and the food was well priced. It’s not a fancy restaurant but it has a cosy feel to it, it’s clean, smart and has a very relaxed atmosphere. You can take your time enjoying your food, chatting and of course, don’t forget to end the meal with black tea and baklava. We’ll be going back to Sadaf again soon.

This is the perfect time for me to let you know that I’m doing vlogmas this year. I’m aiming to share 31 videos throughout December to learn more about filming and editing. I would love it if you could subscribe to my YT channel and check out my latest videos. I’m really enjoying creating videos, learning to edit and just having these memories to look back on. Are you getting involved with vlogmas this year? If you are, leave your YT links in the comment section below.
