Create a cake with Patisserie Valerie

Let’s start the day with some cake. The other week I ordered a fancy cheesecake for my dad’s birthday from Patisserie Valerie. I’ve heard it was delicious and went down very well, it’s a shame I wasn’t there to celebrate his birthday or try the cake. Fear not though, a few days later I was asked to try out the new create a cake app over on the website.

I spent ages putting together this delicious cake* and picked it up from the Patisserie Valerie shop in the centre of Sheffield. You can actually have the cake delivered to your home if you wish. As always, the staff were very friendly in the shop and before I left they boxed up the cake and covered it in ribbons and bows.

The create a cake app is very easy and fun to use. It gives you the chance to make your dream cake by picking the sponge, cream, side and topping decorations. There’s lots of options to pick from and I spent ages deciding between the 5 types of cream and the nibbed almonds or dark chocolate. I finally made my decision and managed to try a bit of everything within the cake. This cake has a vanilla sponge, chocolate and coffee cream with fruit, a dark chocolate wrap and dusted berries on top. Adding a bow onto the cake really finishes it off well, especially if you’re giving it as a gift.

It’s suggested that the cake will serve 8 people. However, I think you can get a good 8-10 slices out of this cake which makes it perfect for a party. If you’e feeling greedy then 4 of you could get through this cake over a few days, just like we did.

Just look at that coffee and fruit filling. I can’t decide if I liked the coffee or chocolate cream best but they both compliment each other very well. I would pick this combo again. This cake came to £25 and if you think about all the work, time, ingredients and skill that went into making this beauty it’s clearly well worth it. I’m really looking forward to having another excuse to create a fancy cake later in the year.

I’ve purchased a few cakes from Patisserie Valerie over the last few years as gifts and they’ve always been a hit. Now that they have the create a cake application it means you can really personalise your cake. Even if you’re not planning on buying a cake it’s still fun to go over to the website and create your dream cake.
