Overwhelmed with stuff – house edition

It’s been a while.

I’ve got a lot to say and about 20 half written posts to finish and share.

Anyway, the main thing is… I’m back and those posts will be making their way to PGT over the coming weeks.

Let’s start off with a little diary entry style post. Today I’m sharing a bit of a brain dump about the clutter and overwhelm in my house.

So, I’ve been having a huge clear out of our house because there is just so much stuff that’s it’s overwhelming. Like, REALLY overwhelming, to the point I can’t function and I can’t begin to organise anything because I don’t know where to start. If you know me in real life you’ll always hear that I’m having a declutter and you’d think that it’s just never ending and while that’s true it’s mostly because it takes me so long to do. I’ll empty a cupboard and then get distracted and do something else and so everything gets put back into the cupboard at the end of the day or hidden away into a random bag and there it hides ‘Til I get super overwhelmed again and have a go at sorting things out. Even having a bag of stuff knocking about to go to the charity shop or to upload onto Vinted is just too much at the moment. Luckily we’ve been able to get rid of some things by putting them outside of our house which just makes things so much easier and they’re gone by the end of the day.

Anyway, big changes are coming to my house. I think we’re fairly on top of the kitchen and try very hard to make sure the kitchen is put to bed at the end of he day. If that doesn’t happen then it rolls over to the next day and who wants that! Then, as I’ve said, we are in the swing of decluttering and downsizing the amount of stuff we have. I’m not even talking about getting rid of major stuff. I find empty envelopes in boxes and stacks of old birthday cards. Alongside this I’m working on a digital declutter which is so freeing and means I’m becoming more streamlined when I’m on my laptop or phone. I’ve even put myself on a domain buying ban for a while because it’s time for me to focus on Dairy Free Daisy (she says while writing here on PGT) and put a pause on any new ideas. Finally we are setting house systems and implementing new daily routines to make everything flow smoothly. At the moment there are pockets of organisation and little systems here and there and they work beautifully… but it needs to be a house wide thing. Pockets of organisation aren’t enough.

I’ve created an ultimate to do list which to be honest, is a working list because I’m constantly adding to it. I’ll be honest, it is quite overwhelming having a list like this but with the fact I can tick things off and I can also take a few of the important tasks and put them on our fridge (we need reminders everywhere) it just seems to be working. Edit: Reader, the ultimate to do list is not working. Back to the drawing board.

I’m finding that I can’t even focus on writing because I keep thinking that I should be tidying something up or sorting through a box. It’s frustrating and holding me back from working on my blogs and a whole host of other things. I mean it’s 22:28 as I’m typing this and really the only thing I should be doing is getting cosy in bed a listening to a podcast. Speaking of which, I’m going to post this and come back with another entry tomorrow.
