Feeling drained from my recent eczema flare up

This is one of those diary-style posts. I just feel like I need to make note of this so I can keep track of everything.

Over the last couple of weeks I’ve been suffering from a very bad eczema flare up.

My hands have been extremely itchy, dry and sore. I’ve also found random rashes over my body and my face has been red and blotchy. As always though, most of the issues have been focused on my hands and wrists.

This is the first bad eczema flare up I’ve had for a couple of years and it has really caught me off guard. It used to happen every other month and sometimes I’d be suffering for half the year with eczema all over my hands.

The last flare up I remember was at the start of my pregnancy (from taking folic acid with lactose in) but since then my skin has been good. I even found I had a ‘pregnancy cloak’ against my dairy intolerance from around 34 weeks. I was able to tolerate a little chocolate and a few pizzas without triggering my eczema – perfect timing.

It seems that magical ‘pregnancy cloak’ is long gone now… sigh.

This time ’round the flare up is really taking a lot out of me. I feel totally drained. The eczema has stopped me from sleeping, I’ve become extra sensitive to certain soaps and I’ve had to be strict about what I’m eating.

I can’t see them getting better any time soon, not for a couple of weeks at least. I’m washing my hands like crazy because of COVID19 and also getting through a lot of hand cream to try and tackle the dryness.

I just want to stop furiously itching my hands in my sleep. Sometimes I’ve scratched them so badly that they bleed and I can barely move my fingers the following day.

I want to get my skin back to what it was. I was so happy with it last summer and I’ll be working hard to get them back to normal over the next few months.

That’s all for now.

I hope you’re all well and keeping safe. x
