I really want to get back into writing, creating and sharing. I’ve made small starts on my existing Instagram and TIktok accounts but the real deal needs to be here on the blog. I’ve had this blog for well over 15 years and the views it still gets, despite minimal uploads, blows me away. Not only that, I think as the rise of AI continues we’ll see more people leaning back in to long-form content both on blogs and over on Youtube. Hopefully I’ll write more about this soon.
Getting back into writing and creating has felt nothing but an upward battle these last few months. Sure, I’ve had lots going on and the majority of my time is spent filling everyone else’s cup, working, exercising and entertaining but how long can that be an excuse? It’s all about being intentional and carving out time for the things I once loved, new things and more.
My notes app is full of half written blog posts, some abandoned due of a lack of time to finish or to find the headspace for and others completed but too personal and open to share here. I’m trying to work out a way to find a happy medium between sharing the things I love and snippets of life but not venturing into oversharing, something which comes all too easily to me with people I feel comfortable with or with the false anonymity of the internet.
Actually, I miss the anonymity of the internet, or at least, what once felt anonymous. Even though there were always eyes watching and reading it wasn’t really people you’d cross paths with. Things are different now. More and more people are chronically online and as we reach varying stages of life there are things that just don’t feel right to be sharing.
I’ve always found myself creating and sharing in some way. First there was Geocities where you could build your own website about something you loved, then came LiveJournal which was more about creating a digital diary and suddenly we were in the depths of MySpace and then Facebook where faces were put to usernames in a much more personal way. Blogging landed somewhere around 2008 for me, well, blogging on Blogger/Wordpress and even then things felt sheltered from normal day to day life.
I don’t just want to create for the sake of it and while I enjoy sharing reviews of the things I love I still want my blog to have personality and to sound like me. I made some good friends through blogging and had so many cool experiences because of this little corner of the internet. I’m keen to get back to doing the things I once loved, as an outlet amongst the chaos, to platform small businesses and people and to be quite frank, to reignite the income that once came from this blog.
