Back in August, I shared 10 small things that were bringing me joy. It was a gentle and easy blog post to write and it went down well (as well as a blog post in 2026 can go). A chance to share a piece of myself without oversharing. It also brought back the nostalgic feel of the early days of blogging, which I know so many of us are missing right now. So, I’ve decided to keep the momentum going and turn this into a monthly feature.
I need to keep things super simple at the moment, otherwise the overthinking will sneak back in and I’m so done with second guessing myself. I never used to be like that and I’ve always been grateful that I’m not a perfectionist. I’m trying to work hard to get back into that original mindset. I think during times like this it’s good to look at what is right in front of us and appreciate the everyday details.
So, in true old-school fashion, here is a snapshot of the things I’m loving right now.
Hot Pilates – After 2 months of deliberation, the first week of October saw me finally taking my first hot Pilates class. I wanted to start the month off trying something new, and more importantly, something that scared me a little. I thought I’d hate it and do you know what, I kind of did. I hated it so much that I loved it, and as I walked out of the studio I booked on to several more classes the following week.
I like my workouts to feel like a real challenge. There’s something about the adrenaline rush during the class and the dopamine hit after that my mind and body just needs.
Right now, hot Pilates is my favourite class to attend alongside the Pilates-fitness fusion classes I mentioned here. I need to get a circuit or HIIT class added into my week, ideally before the end of October. I’m determined to level up my fitness and drop more weight before the end of the year.
Reading without the need for it to feel productive – For way too long now, I’ve been reading mostly factual based books on parenting, business and self-development. While I still enjoy those types of books, I decided at the start of the month that it was time to incorporate some fictional books into my days.
We’re almost three weeks into the month and I can happily say that reading has once again become a regular part of my daily routine. It didn’t take long for the habit to return and with an easy read like The Marlow Murder Club, I quickly found that I stopped worrying about the need to feel productive when reading.
Skateboarding – A couple of months ago I decided to take up skateboarding and it’s been so much fun being a total beginner at something again. One of my friends decided to join me with learning to skate so it’s been a good way to have a weekly catch up while doing something active and fun. It’s also a good excuse to grab some late night food after. We’re seeing progress each week and I hope to keep it going over the colder months, maybe we’ll be ready for the skatepark soon?
Anklets – Since early April I’ve been wearing anklets and I can’t see myself stopping any time soon, although the winter months may have something to say about that. There isn’t much to say about them, I don’t know if they’re on trend or not, I just like them and they bring me joy.
Morning lego building – In a bid to have the TV on less while the children are eating we’ve been doing a lot of Lego building before and after breakfast. I love how creative they both are with Lego and in such different ways too. There’s still a lot of TV happening though, sometimes I just have to keep everyone contained as we get ready for school.
Moka coffee pot – I found the moka pot hiding at the back of the cupboard and remembered what lovely, strong coffee it makes, so I’ve been using it most days for the last couple of weeks. It forces me to take a little more time with the whole process and anything that forces me to slow down a little bit is always good.
Chasing sunsets – I’ve always loved catching the sunsets but recently I’ve made a real effort to get outside or to drive somewhere a little more open to catch a glimpse of the changing sky and just be still.
Allowing myself to be me – I wasn’t sure about sharing this one but it genuinely is something I’m loving at the moment. I spent a long time hiding away, trying not to be “too much” and holding myself back from everything. It all came to a cumulative crash at the end of March or early April and thank goodness it did.
One of the things I’m particularly loving about finally allowing myself to be me is that my mind is currently buzzing with ideas in terms of blogging, social media content, business ideas. It’s happening in a way that it hasn’t in a long time and I’m so happy about this. Not long ago, I wondered if I’d lost that creative part of me. I think I’m finally returning to myself but not only that, I’m becoming the person I was always meant to be. Who knows. It has taken a lot of hard work over the last 7 months to get to this point but I can’t wait to see where I am when my birthday rolls back around.
