Relax: A Friday evening at home

Flamingo candle

I think it’s safe to say that we all love Fridays. I’m not one for clubs these days (not that I ever really was) and would much rather spend the evening reading blogs, working on personal projects and having some delicious food. But that’s not exactly relaxing, it’s being productive. As much as I love keeping busy and focused on the things I love I need to take some time for myself and avoid getting run down. So, I decided to dedicate my Friday evening to ‘switching off’ and relaxing. You know, put the laptop top down, turn the phone on silent and take a little time to refresh the mind.

I went to my parents place for the evening and took a few goodies with me. I started my evening off by applying a hair mask (after a good Persian meal). My hair has been feeling pretty dry lately, so I’ve got into a habit of experimenting with new products on my hair. Over the last few weeks I’ve been using the TRESemmé Keratin Mask. I picked this up in the Superdrug sale along with a few other bits in January. I’ve just checked the website and it’s still £3.99 instead of £5.99, not bad.

I like to leave the mask on for as long as possible and really get the most out of it. I have fairly long and thick hair so I tend to spend a lot of time brushing knots out of it. However, when I use this mask it does a fantastic job at detangling my hair and making it smooth. There doesn’t seem to be any increase in shine but I’ve been happy with the moisture it’s given my hair. I have sensitive skin and have to ensure that the product doesn’t go onto my skin. If it does it can sometimes cause a little irritation. This doesn’t happen much as I tend to wash my hair upside down. Overall I’m really enjoying this hair mask and will be purchasing it again once it’s all used up and if it’s still on offer.

Back to my evening. When the hair mask was fully massaged in I pinned my hair up and sat down to watch my old Life DVD. This was a gift from Melon a good few years ago and is something I come back to watch every now and then. I find it ideal to have on when I’m doing work or just need to cut off from busy day-to-day life. Have you ever watched Life? I just checked Amazon and you can grab Life for just £9 now, bargain!

Finally, take a look at my candle. Isn’t the jar beautiful? It’s from Flamingo Candles which is a brand I’m fairly new to. The Parma Violets candle was kindly sent to me a few weeks ago and I bloody love it. Yep, you read that right, this is a Parma Violets scented candle. It’s part of their Candy Shop Classics range. I normally go for spicy candles filled with cinnamon and orange but  had to give this a chance because I love Parma Violets.

I’ve been burning this candle in my bedroom over the last few weeks and decided to take it to my parents place so my mum could experience it. It has a lovely scent of Parma Violets which fills the room fairly quickly. I was pleased to find that the scent wasn’t too overpowering or sickly. I’ll definitely be buying this candle in the future and also have a few friends who will love the nostalgic candy collection. First I think I’m going to have to try a few other products from the range. I’m eyeing up the Vanilla Milk Bottles candle for when I’m paid. These candles are just £12 (200g wax) which I think is good as they are said to burn for up to 50 hours.

Did you take any time to relax this weekend?
